POSITION SUMMARY:

Current Opening: One part-time position (16 hours per week).

Assists the nursing staff by maintaining paper flow and other duties as requested. A high degree of confidentiality is required, as well as organizational skills, people skills, problem solving skills and the ability to interact with diverse sectors of the organization. This includes physicians, board members, corporate officers, managers, staff and the public. Must be able to handle a variety of tasks at one time.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Answers the phone and dispatches/documents messages.
  • Coordinates the signing of physician telephone orders in a timely manner.
  • Accompany residents/patients to appointments in in-house and make arrangements for other appointments.
  • Assists Medical Records by organizing charts after death.
  • Required to fill-out and update the Kardex, transfer forms, and other chart forms.
  • Ensures that the forms are available at each nurse’s station in a neat, organized manner and that charts are replenished as needed.
  • Ensures that mail is delivered to residents/patients and reads the mail to residents as needed.
  • Assists in the yearly inventory of the facility as needed. He/she will maintain a clean work area.
  • All new orders are entered into the EMAR or discontinued as appropriate.
  • For computer downtime – New medication orders are recorded on the MAR and discontinued orders are highlighted, initialed and dated. All entries are legible and transcribed as ordered.
  • Transcribes physician’s orders on resident/patient charts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Completion of medical Terminology course required.
  • CNA certification preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole number, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Competency in basic computer skills and willingness to learn electronic applications.
  • Work with confused or combative patients/residents. 
  • Read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, memos, and correspondence. 
  • Perform multiple tasks and interact with various levels of personnel.
  • Speak and document clearly and concisely.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with members of the Health Care Team.
  • Solve practical problems and work under the direction of the licensed nursing staff.
  • Read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly lifting or move objects weighing 10 to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, walking, standing, and working with equipment.
  • Subject to inside and possibly outside weather conditions.
