POSITION SUMMARY:

Current Opening: One full-time position (Days and Weekends; 36 hours per week)

The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in the technical duties under the direct supervision of the Pharmacy Director and be responsible for all tasks related to the medication dispensing process. This excludes those medication dispensing processes that are the legal responsibility of the licensed pharmacist. Technicians must be proficient in all areas that are within the scope of a licensed pharmacy technician working in an outpatient pharmacy. Cross-training opportunities for inpatient pharmacy tasks will also be available on the job.

Experience and licensing preferred, but on-the-job training will be strongly considered for the right applicant

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the pharmacist in the filling of physician orders.
  • Fills and delivers floor stock medication, assists the pharmacist, when necessary, in filling and delivering patient medication.
  • Assist in inventory control and pharmacy purchases.
  • Remain knowledgeable of processes regarding input of patient and floor stock charges into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Monitors utilization of non-Pyxis related medication and communicates any problems to the pharmacist and business office manager.
  • Supervises checks of all storage areas for outdates medication.
  • Supervises monthly medication storage area inspection.
  • Any tasks within the area of expertise and certification that is necessary for the efficient operation of the pharmacy department and the hospital.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment by assessing and maintaining equipment, stock supplies and general appearance of the department.
  • Has reliable attendance record and is punctual.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician status in the State of Wyoming.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • College degree preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships and communication to include telephone etiquette.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Accurate record keeping.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Proficiency in mathematics to include the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Compute rate, ratio, and percents.
  • Basic computer skills to include wireless devices and Microsoft Office.
  • Use other basic office equipment such as calculator, fax machine, scanner, POS register, etc.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to project and present a positive image of the department and team.
  • Carry out protocols and decisions in differing circumstances.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly lift or move objects weighing 10-15 pounds.
  • Standing and/or crouching for long periods of time.
  • Subject to inside and outside weather conditions due to use of drive thru.
  • The employee is also subject to exposure to blood and body fluids, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, exposure to burns and radiant energy, exposure to explosives, exposure to toxic chemicals and biological agents.
